Abdominoplasty- Stitches Out

It has been just over two weeks. I had an appointment with the nurse yesterday and had my stitches out.

First of all because I felt ok I went for a walk through the shops after my appointment. Bad idea. Yes I could walk and it didn't hurt but - WOW - hard work! I don't know if it was the walking, the crowd, the bright lights or the noise but I came home with a terrible headache and nausea. I was on the lounge all night last night and I still don't feel well today.

Now to the stitches. Getting the stitches out of my belly button was fine as was having the steri-strips removed from my scar. I am not the type of person who cringes at the site of blood or gets faint at the thought of surgery; having a big scar on my tummy doesn't even really bother me. However now that I can see the cut and imagine the scar that will remain it is quite confronting.

I even took a photo of it but can't quite bare to post it on the blog yet. If you are considering having a procedure like this and are faint hearted then the scar is something to seriously consider. As I have said before, I NEEDED to get rid of the excess skin to feel happy in my own body. The gains for me are massive while the scar doesn't really worry me, but seeing it, I can understand why it would worry others. I will post a photo, just not today.

  1. Monica I think you are being so very brave!
I really hate the sagging skin on my tummy too but I am afraid that the scar will bother me just as much.

  2. Thank you Nicole. The scar is not nice but it is still early days. It will fade over time I just didn't realise how bad it would look in the meantime. My kids are a little scared to see it.
I still prefer the scar to the skin though!
Good luck, for me it has been worth it already.

  3. I've tried commenting before but I haven't been able to figure out how to either.

I want to see pictures! Is it over the top of your c-section scar?

  4. Hi Tamara. I had to change the settings for comments so that you don't need to 'log in' to comment. Funny how i couldn't post a reply on my own blog.

The cut is on my c-section in terms of skin but it seems a lot higher in relation to my body. I think because the skin was stretched up to meet the skin from the top the scar is higher than i thought it would be. But then my belly button also seems higher than i expected.

I took the photos on my own with my phone and it just doesn't look right. I will get some taken over the weekend and post.

  5. Hi Mon,

Mikaela had a bad scar on her face - highly recommend using Vitamin E OIL twice a day, bought it from the chemist. That stuff rocks. 100 day guarantee to fade scars and it worked. Big scar but so below the belt I wouldn't worry. Happy with the belly button position now?

  6. Hey Renee
Thanx it is still early days- I guess I shouldn't even be calling it a scar yet!
I am on strict instructions to massage it twice a day for 10 minutes using BioOil or VitE.

  7. I am kind of used to the new belly button position. Tape will come off on Tuesday and I can see my new belly button.

  8. I read that when pregnancy, severe weight loss, or advanced age leave the stomach area saggy and weak — people look to a plastic surgeon for a tummy tuck. Medically referred to as an abdominoplasty, this procedure is a common aspect of a “mommy makeover” package; some women are more eager than others to regain their figures post-pregnancy.
